How To Identify Crisis Pregnancy Centers

Crisis pregnancy centers, or pregnancy resource centers, disguise themselves as medical facilities, but usually have no licensed doctors, nurses or counselors. They often appear under “Abortion Alternatives,” and may have names similar to abortion clinics nearby in order to confuse patients into entering their buildings instead of the real clinics.

Once you enter a CPC, their mission is to prevent you from getting an abortion at any cost. They will use misleading language, delay tactics, emotional manipulation, intimidation, and outright lies to either persuade you against abortion or to make you miss your appointment. The worst part? It’s all completely legal and funded by federal dollars.

CPCs do their best to appear as legitimate abortion clinics, so how can you tell which is which? Here is a list of red flags for CPCs:

The words “crisis” or “resource” appear in the center’s name

Their ads use language like “Pregnant & Scared?”

They offer free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds

When asked if they provide abortions or contraception, they will not give a direct answer

The waiting room has biased pamphlets, sometimes with graphic pictures labeled as abortions

They attempt to make you feel guilty about considering abortion

They offer baby items, such as diapers and formula

They downplay the effectiveness of contraception and emphasize abstinence

They emphasize the dangers of abortion (Fact: fewer than 0.3% of patients experience complications requiring hospitalization)

They discuss the false connections between abortion and breast cancer, infertility, or mental illness, often referred to as post-abortion stress syndrome

Regardless of how you talk about the pregnancy, they refer to “your baby,” the “preborn child,” “post-abortive women,” and say that you are “already a mother.”

I tend to define my bisexuality more as “I have relationships which are socially (and coercively) defined as queer, and relationships which are coercively socially defined as het”. Like, the binary exists not in my attractions but in the range of responses to them? Cause generally how me and a partner are treated depends far less on our identities than on the assumptions everyone in the goddamn world seems to make about those IDs. Y’know?

Ah, I’m glad it struck a chord!

Another thing that I’m thinking of is that, of course, it’s not as if there’s a discrete set of Relationships Coercively Defined As Queer and another set of Relationships Coercively Defined As Het. But what’s in between isn’t a grey area, so much as zebra stripes: Me&Partner can be defined by one person as queer and by another person as het and navigating that can be complicated. But it generally happens (outside of wonderful queer bubbles) in a binary way- this person reads Me&Partner as queer, that person reads us as het, another person can’t categorise and can’t deal with not being able to and there is where life gets a hell of a lot more complicated or risky for us.

What about pansexual people who don’t hate on bi people or mis-define bisexuality? What about pan people who aren’t ignorant towards trans* identities? What about pansexual people who have trans* identities? Why does every other post I see on pansexuality have these broad generalizations about what pansexual people say and think?

Congratulations on the most roundabout version of “we’re not all like that” I’ve ever seen.

Nowhere did I say “all pan people.” I used cis and binary identity qualifiers where relevant. And by the way, binary trans*people perpetuate a lot of binarism and nonbinary erasure.

So what about all those pan people who “aren’t like that” that I didn’t talk about? What do you want, a pat on the back? A fruit basket with a card saying “congratulations on not personally being one of the people who misrepresent, appropriate, and generally shit on my identity”? I don’t owe you a fucking mention, not one.

OMG!

We need to just start handing out cookie recipes for times like these. Y’know, so people can make their own damn not-as-oppressive-as-those-other-people cookies and let the rest of us actually talk about the issues at hand.

Because if your first response to finding out that people who identify the way you do do some oppressive shit is to say “but I don’t do that!”, you need to start taking a long hard look at your priorities and focus.

Maybe while you’re baking yourself those cookies.

Then she took a taxi to the nearest police station, laid the gun on the sergeant’s desk and told him as calm as could be: “Those bastards will never rape anybody again, by God.”

Cops say convicted rapist and robber Davis Furth, 33, lost both his penis and his testicles when outraged Ava opened fire with a 9-mm pistol in the hotel room where he and former prison cell mate Stanley Thomas, 29, were holed up.

The wrinkled avenger also blew Thomas’ testicles to kingdom come, but doctors managed to save his mangled penis, police said. “The one guy, Thomas, didn’t lose his manhood, but the doctor I talked to said he won’t be using it the way he used to,” Detective Delp told reporters. “Both men are still in pretty bad shape, but I think they’re just happy to be alive after what they’ve been through.”

The Rambo Granny swung into action August 21 after her granddaughter Debbie was carjacked and raped in broad daylight by two knife-wielding creeps in a section of town bordering on skid row. “When I saw the look on my Debbie’s face that night in the hospital, I decided I was going to go out and get those bastards myself ‘cause I figured the Law would go easy on them,”’ recalled the retired library worker. ” And I wasn’t scared of them, either - because I’ve got me a gun and I’ve been shooting’ all my life. And I wasn’t dumb enough to turn it in when the law changed about owning one.”

So, using a police artist’s sketch of the suspects and Debbie’s description of the sickos, tough-as-nails Ava spent seven days prowling the wino-infested neighbourhood where the crime took place till she spotted the ill-fated rapists entering their flophouse hotel.

“I knew it was them the minute I saw ‘em, but I shot a picture of ‘em anyway and took it back to Debbie and she said sure as hell, it was them,” the oldster recalled…

“So I went back to that hotel and found their room and knocked on the door, and the minute the big one opened the door, I shot ‘em right square between the legs, right where it would really hurt ‘em most, you know. Then I went in and shot the other one as he backed up pleading to me to spare him. Then I went down to the police station and turned myself in.”

Now, baffled lawmen are trying to figure out exactly how to deal with the vigilante granny.. “What she did was wrong, and she broke the law, but it is difficult to throw an 81-year-old woman in prison,” Det. Delp said, “especially when 3 million people in the city want to nominate her for Mayor.”

I know I shouldn’t think this is a beautiful thing.

I know that vigilante justice is rarely just and that we can’t just let people think they can just go around shooting people. I mean, I really don’t get USians attachment to guns. It’s bizarre to me.

But….

I kinda love this lady. And she was right. The law would probably go easy on them.

I’m just saying that if she does get sent to prison, someone make sure she gets the fancy suite with the jacuzzi in.
